Time flies when we're having fun! During the last few weeks of Cadet Teaching, we
are going to take time to look at cadet teaching from several points of view--what
you learned about teaching, what you learned about your students, and what advice you would give an incoming cadet teacher.
This week list your Top Ten Reasons to Become a Teacher along with 1-2 sentences of explanation! Read the responses of the other cadets and comment on 2 reasons different from yours!

1.To be with kids.
I love spending time with kids and helping them learn. They are easy to communicate with and I enjoy teaching them new things.
2.Education, to me, is the most important thing a person can have.
Your education is very important to your future. Giving students the gift of knowledge is something that I know I will enjoy doing.
3.The demand for good teachers is high, especially math teachers.
Upon telling people that I want to be a high school math teacher, they tell me that I will have no trouble finding a job. Even though this is not a main reason of mine, it definitely is a perk!
4.The hours are very flexible.
Although it isn’t the highest paying job, it’s not the lowest either. The hours are very flexible, usually 7:00am to 4:30pm and it’s usually pretty easy to find a substitute teacher.
5.You get all of the breaks and summer off.
I think this will be so nice to have vacations throughout the year. This especially will be nice for the teachers who have children; you’ll be able to stay at home with your kids.
6.It’s convenient for a family life.
If you plan to have kids, being a teacher is an ideal job. While the kids are in school, so are you! Also, during the kid’s breaks you have the opportunity to go on a vacation of do fun things if you want to!
7.Teaching can make you be creative.
Each year brings a new bunch of kids, which at times can be challenging. This will force the teacher to come up with new methods of discipline and behavior.
8.You can get a daily dose of humor.
My kids are in first grade and I think they are funny and I’m only there for the first two periods! If you become a teacher, you’ll get to enjoy the funny things that kids say.
9.Forever Young.
If you work with kids everyday, then it will keep you young. Hearing what the kids talk about will make you stay with up to date with the latest trends.
10.You’ll probably have one job for life.
Most teachers have been a teacher for their whole life. Most people find a job that is fit for them and stick with it until they retire.
1. Being a role model.
Not every job allows you to be an example for people to follow. I think it's so cool that kids will look up to us and strive to act the way we act.
2. Be in charge of your classroom.
Although there is a principal that is your boss, you get to dictate how you decorate your room and teaching methods.
3. Be a kid again.
Being around children all day will remind you what it's like to be a kid and you will get to participate in fun activities all the time.
4. Get to do something different every day.
Instead of sitting in an office doing the same thing every day, teachers get to come up with new lesson plans and teach something new everyday.
5. Still learning.
Being around kids will allow you to interact with them and learn from them.
6. Summer's off!
Not gonna lie, this is pretty exciting. You get a summer off to either relax or get another job that gives you a break from teaching for a little bit.
7. Good hours.
You won't have to work late nights or on the weekends which allows you to spend quality time with friends and family.
8. Get to watch them grow.
Being around the same kids all day, will allow you to watch them make progress in academics as well as maturity.
9. Helping Kids with their Future
What they learn in grade school will stay with them the rest of their lives and help them determine what they want their future to be.
10. Job Security
Teachers all needed and in high demand so if you're good at your job, you'll get to keep it.
I like Sarah's reason about getting a daily dose of humor. Being around kids really is so much fun, their stories always make me laugh. I also like Sarah's reason of how teaching can make you creative. Being creative is a very important aspect of being a teacher and that can carry over into your personal life as well.
1. To have a huge impact on a child's life.
There is no doubt that every teacher a child is with has a impact on their lives. Teachers teach significant life lessons that can affect a child for the rest of their life.
2. Young at heart
Being a teacher, you are around kids all the time playing games and activities. In a sense, elementary school teachers never have to grow up.
3. You get to have fun
Teachers plan field trips, field days, craft days, ice cream days, and many other fun events that the students love. Teachers get to not only plan these, but have fun with the children also!
4. You can have a family
Teaching is a very hardworking, but flexible job. It allows you to raise a family and spend a lot of time with them also.
5. Breaks
Teaching offers many breaks that are much needed. These long breaks help teachers to re-group their lesson plans and spend time with their families.
6. Interaction with the parents
As a teacher, you get to check in with the parents and inform them how much their children have grown. This can be a very moving experience.
7. Being around the kids
If you're a person who loves kids, teaching is great job for you. You can be around their cuteness and their humor all the time.
8. Promotions
Like other jobs, teachers have the power to move up. They could become a principle or administrator and earn better wages.
9. Plenty of Jobs
Soon, a lot of the present teachers will be retiring. This will cause a huge demand for teachers.
10. Enhance your learning.
Even though teachers already have been to 16+ years of school, they still learn everyday. The students help the teacher to become aware of new things and new ideas.
I really liked Sarah's comment about the daily dose of humor. I think that the first graders in my first grade class are hilarious, and thats one of the main things i'm looking forward to in teaching in the future.
I also liked Pauline's comment about good hours. Teachers never have to work late nights or on the weekends, which provides them with a lot of availability if they're not doing lesson plans or grading.
1. Working with kids everyday
The joy from working with them is unlike any other experience.

Teachers truly have the most important job in the world they educate the future.

This gives you time off that you need to prepare for the next week of learning.

When you have your own kids you could all be in the same building as your own kids. Also you can have your kids teacher as personal friends.

Time to relax and spend time raising your own family.

A classroom is meant for learning, and not just learning for the student.

I beleive you need creativity everyday as an outlet and a classroom would give me that outlet.

Everyone wants a job where they can see improvement and praise right away.

Not only do you get to work with kids, but also their parents. It is the best of both worlds.
10. Good Hours.
there are no night shifts in teaching and you get to be home to make dinner for your family.

1. To help children learn.
I believe it is every teacher's goal to help children learn of course! But teachers really need to take it off of the parents' hands to make sure the child understands the material and goes over it with them. Parents are busy themselves!
2. To make learning fun and interesting!
Changing up how things are taught will excite the students while getting them interested in the material! When the child is interested in the material, they're more likely to understand it!
3. To prepare the students for their futures!
These students have many years of schooling ahead of them. Every teacher gives them a boost up to those higher levels of education and classes.
4. Teachers and students can learn from each other.
Students can have and most likey will have different ideas or be creative and come up with fun ways to remember how to do stuff they are learning in class. They can make learning into fun activities which you can use in future years.
5. To stay young!
Like the others have said, being a teacher for little kids allow you to keep your childhood partally. You can have fun while learning! Like the commerical for arthritis says, "a body in motion stays in motion"!
6. Children keep us young.
They show us how to be innocent and fun. They are so sweet. Sure they can cause some trouble but if you look at it in general, they're good and never mean to hurt others ever.
7. Summer is always summer.
Teachers don't have to work as many hours during the summer as they do during the school year. Unlike most jobs, the hours depends on the school year. Teachers actually get a summer.
8.Children are happy which is healthy.
Being surrounded by happy people helps your health! It sounds unsupported and possibly cheesy but who cares! Working with children may be stressful sometimes but the majority of the work with be lead to happiness and success.
9.There is usually a demand for teachers.
Especially in this economy it is good to have a specific profession and not a general college degree. There is always a turn-over in the teaching profession so openings for new teachers.
10.Opportunities for summer travel. With summers off, it gives time for more than a typical 2 wk vacation. Trips to Europe would be fun and educational.
Megan's comment about enjoying interaction with parents is a good point. It will certainly be good positive reinforcment when they are happy with how their child is doing in your classroom. If there are problems, it will be good to learn how to solve them and keep communication open.
Sarah brought up the idea that it is a good profession for family life. That is true, with similar vacations to your own children once they are in school and also having more than the typical short vacation once/year.
1. Around kids. I love making a difference in the kids lives and be a role model for them.
2. Make a difference. When you change one childs life, you can change many lives. You feel good for making a difference in a childs life.
3. To plant a seed in the kids minds. We need good teachers in this world and it all starts with their teachers. Kids feed off of their teachers.
4. You get the summer and all the breaks off. You get the down time you want. Then you have something to look forward to.. the kids!
5. To watch success. The best part about being a teacher is watching a child that struggles understand more and more everyday.
6. Security blanket. After you reach all the requirments, you have a set job. Teachers are needed.
7. To help the future. Little kids are our future. If they have a good education then we will have great leaders in the future.
8. keeps you young at heart. The kids always keep you up to date with things going on. They make sureyou always have fun.
8.Always learn something new. Even though teachers are suppose to know everything, they dont. They learn something new everytday too.
9. DAily Humor. There isnt a day where you go without something funny happening. THe kids always make you smile.
10. Hours are flexible. WHen a teacher has a family, they can always get home when they need to.
I like megans statement about being able to interact with the [arent. Its always a good feeling when you tell a parent that their child is doing great! i also like lauras statement about kids always being happy. there is never a time when i dont see one of my children not smiling! when i walk in the door its smiles throughout the whole room, even Mrs Auger.
